Although the mobile gaming market is continuously growing and it is scheduled to reach ten billion dollars by 2009, the future doesn't seem so bright. Despite spectacular financial evolution, the market stagnates for a long period without any sign of evolution. The representatives of some of the biggest game developing companies declared that it is time to take the gaming industry to the next level, because it has currently reached a point that doesn't allow future evolution in this direction.
It is clear that this industry is profitable only for five or six game producing companies that make millions of dollars every year, but the other developers are recording serious losses. The market needs competition so that products and services can become better and prices maintained at the current level or maybe lowered. Eventually, the big companies sustain their point of view that the market isn't reaching its full potential because of various bottlenecks in the distribution and merchandising processes. Another problem of this sector of mobile entertainment is represented by the costs for data traffic that are considered way too high by most of the persons involved, network operators making an exception. The biggest source of trouble for the industry is the questionable quality of the products. Mobile games content hasn't evolved in a long period and is considered to be poor in most titles by the regular users. Lots of bugs, technical incompatibilities or crappy content, all lead to an unwanted feedback from the customers. These are also complaining about the same old ideas that are copied from one producer and game to another, infinitely recycled and served as a new product in order to squeeze more money. This is happening for a long time and it is time for innovative ideas in creating new content, experiences and interacting ways.
The mobile gaming industry is facing a critical point despite the recent profit and it needs to change its orientation towards the users and bringing new, better content in a cheap and easy way, so that everybody should benefit from this.
