You have known each other for years, practically grew up together and you tell each other everything. There are no secrets between the two of you, right? Right? Well almost no secrets anyway.
You probably realize that no matter what a friend says when they are asking for an honest opinion, they really mean that you are supposed to agree with them. Most of the time there is no real harm in telling someone what he or she wants to hear. After all, they will probably get tired of singing Karaoke any day now so what harm does it do to say they are good? Or if your friend thinks they look great in that huge pink marshmallow looking jacket, its ok, winter doesn't last forever.
However if you are like most good friends you spend a lot of time together and you are starting to think you are going to scream if you hear "In Da Club" or "Don't Cha" one more time. But, what can you do? It's your best friend's favorite. Some friends might get the message when you drop a subtle hint or two. Say something like the next time you are out together and you hear that song try telling your friend "Wow, looks like everyone agrees with your choice of songs we hear it a lot. Hey, you may want to change your ringtone now to something original and see how long it takes for everyone else to use it". That gives them the idea that they are a leader, setting a trend and everyone else follows. That is a great ego booster!
If that fails, spend the money and buy a ringtone for them. You can tell them that when you heard this song recently you immediately thought of them and wanted to surprise them by getting it. Of course you want to make sure it is a song they like and can't take the wrong way. For instance, Fat Bottom Girls may not be the perfect choice for someone who is a little over-weight.
Another idea is to purchase a ringtone gift card for them. This pretty much assures they will change the ringtone since you went to the trouble to get them a card and may even suggest that you pick one out together.
Or, if all else fails, you can always borrow the phone (they don't have to know) and accidentally erase the offending ringtone. When your friend realizes this you can act all bummed out and then suggest hey lets pick one o
